Celebrating our summer of Fundraisers – Finn to run her first half marathon!

17 year old talented young sports enthusiast Finn Searle, from Worplesdon, Surrey, took up running in lockdown to improve her fitness to be in a good position to return to her chosen sports when they resumed. During that uncertain time, Finn unfortunately developed anorexia. Being in recovery for a while now, she feels passionate about raising awareness of eating disorders and mental health in sport.  To that end, Finn will be running her first ever half marathon, on a treadmill at her home, raising money for Sporting Wellness on 19th August.

Finn, something of an all round young sportsperson, participates in her schools 1st teams for hockey and netball, is involved in rowing, and enjoys swimming and tennis and also watches a variety of sports in her free time!  It’s no wonder really being from a very sporty family including keen rowers, and Finn’s sister has played premier league hockey. As a family they also enjoy attending lots of sporting events including the six nations and just recently the British Grand Prix.

Finn said “I wanted to turn my personal experience into something positive, and help raise awareness amongst my friends, many of them sporty,  and young people generally that we need to talk more about our mental health, including eating disorders. And of course to spread the word that there is help and support there if and when you need it from Sporting Wellness, who provide one to one support, specifically for young sportspeople.  It’s my first time running a half marathon, so it’ll be quite a challenge, wish me luck!”.

Callum our Founder, said “Experiences like Finn’s are sadly not uncommon at all in the world of competitive and higher level sport.  It’s brilliant that Finn has been able to then her experience round into something positive, and we really appreciate that Finn is running her first half marathon raising money along the way for Sporting Mins UK, and helping raise awareness of mental health in sport.  Finn’s fundraising really will help us to help others.”
We wish Finn all the very best of luck with her first ever half marathon, and also her amazing fundraising. To support Finn in her challenge, please go to:
