We’re thrilled to announce that Gloucester, Wales and Lions rugby winger sensation Louis Rees-Zammit, has this week become our first Patron.
Louis has been a friend to, and Ambassador of, Sporting Wellness since our start up. Becoming our Patron will add another dimension to helping us to continue to raise awareness of mental health in sport, and the much needed one to one support we can offer.
Louis said “Sporting Wellness is a charity I’ve supported since 2019 and I’m proud to be able to strengthen my relationship with them. Sportspeople need to treat their mental health as seriously as their physical health, and I’m looking forward to raising much needed awareness around their cause.”
Louis has really made his mark on the game in a whirlwind 12 months. As a first time Lion at aged just 20 he was the youngest player in the British and Irish Lions 2021 tour of South Africa, where he made a big impact on the pitch, as well as being tasked with looking after BIL, the team’s plush lion mascot! Louis is one of the fastest rugby players in the world, clocking up to 10.5 metres per second (23.48 mph) in a game for Gloucester against Saracens.
In 2019 Louis became Gloucester’s youngest player in Premiership history, and this Autumn Louis is back with Gloucester in the EPCR Challenge Cup as the potential top try scorer.
Callum our Founder, said “Louis is a phenomenal rugby player and an inspirational young sportspeople, who has already been a fantastic friend to our charity. It’s an honour to have Louis as our first Patron. Watch out for all the positive actions around mental health in sport and promoting the work of Sporting Wellness that this will lead to!”.
